We know you want to ride and enjoy 'The Chase' with your riding mates year round but the British winter is notoriously grim; cold temperatures, rain, mist and fog are standard and, if your local lanes are as poor as ours here in Sussex, then standing water, pot holes, mud and salt covered roads and make winter tough for you and your bike.
Often the dreadful winter and training season riding conditions mean you loose time and money repairing/replacing wheels. To let you ride as often as possible with the least amount of hassle we have created the Hunt 4 Season Dura Training Wheelset, designed to handle those long winter training rides in all conditions without issue.
The specially designed 23mm wide rim gives plenty of tyre volume which will reduce pinch flats as well as significantly increasing comfort and grip. They have a tubeless ready profile and come supplied with tubeless tape and valves. The option to run tubeless enables lower pressures to be used for even better grip and puncture protection in winter conditions. Of course these wheels are designed and tested to work with the best winter clincher tyres and tubes as well as tubeless, so your Continental Gatorskins will work a treat.
The deeper rim braking track is specifically designed for winter use, the extra material means you get many more miles of use out of them and the CNC machined grooves in the braking track help to move water and dirt away from the pads quickly further reducing wear and improving braking performance, let's face it winter is when you need good braking!
Weight is still important as you want to perform well all year. Our investment in three key areas achieves both durability and a respectable weight so you can still be at your best when 'The Chase Is On'.
High grade triple butted spokes with PSR re-enforced head are a durable 1.8mm gauge but still save weight.
Our alloy freehub body is much lighter than the steel freehubs often found at this price point of wheel, but durability remains excellent thanks to the steel spline insert which protects against cassette sprockets damaging the alloy freehub.
The high-end sleeved rim costs us more to spec, but it significantly reduces weight over other pinned rim options and is just as, if not more, durable.
A higher 24 front and 28 rear spoke count combined with strong but light 1.8mm triple butted spokes make these wheels tough enough to withstand the roughest of roads. We have also used brass taper-grip nipples to ensure seriously long lasting spoke tension stability and the corrosion resistnce from the brass adds a small amount of weight but protects the wheelset when riding on salt-gritted winter roads. The double sealed EZO bearings with high specification waterproof grease ensure that dirt and grit is kept at bay and the wheels spin smoothly all winter.

High-performance technology that extends the life of your wheels and saves you precious maintenance time and money. A strong and lightweight 6000-T6 heat-treated sleeved rim is 21mm deep and 23mm wide (17mm internal) for a great tyre profile with wider 25-34mm tyres, giving excellent grip and lower rolling resistance. The spokes chosen for durability and feature 2.0 - 1.8 butting as well as Pillars PSR spoke head technology. PSR spokes featured the wider 2.2 width at the spoke head providing more material in this high stress area. J-bend made sense for four season use as replacements are easy to find. The Four Season Dura also features the wider gauge PSR spoke with the head-reinforcement so they don't fear the potholes. To accompany these high-end spokes we selected brass nipples for our Hunt 4Season Dura wheels. Brass is strong and corrosion resistant, ideal for salt-gritted winter roads, plus it has self-lubricating properties. As well as the standard square body we chose nipples with a hex head so you can achieve precise tensioning. Plus the specially selected taper grip thread in the nipples grasps the spoke thread tightly meaning spokes will remain taught throughout the life of the wheelset. Combining these components well is key and all Hunt wheels are hand-built and then tensioned by craftspeople who work in pairs to check and finish each other’s work.
Bearings are the heart of any wheel and investing in them makes huge sense so we went to Japanese bearing experts EZO and invested extra to spec their high-grade precision sealed cartridge bearings in our full range. Durability is a theme for Hunt wheels as time and money you spend fixing is time and money you can’t spend riding or upgrading your bikes. This is especially important for a winter training wheelset that you use regularly in harsh conditions. As a result all our freehub bodies have Steel Spline Insert re-enforcements to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.
At Hunt we enjoy the puncture resistance and grip benefits of tubeless on our every-day rides so we wanted to allow our customers the same option, but of course all our tubeless-ready wheels are also designed to work perfectly with clincher tyres and inner tubes.
The little details matter, the Hunt 4Season quick-release polymer-cam skewers even have upgraded stainless steel springs so they don’t rust.
